I think almost all of you read this book. And you know, the end of this story is open, so we can imagine every continuation we like....
My question is "Do you think Scarlett and Rhett will be together or no?"
Cause I know many people consider the happy-end. But I don't agree with this. In my opinion, it's too late for Scarlett to realise her true feelings. And Rhett is too tired of fighting with her illusive desires. I pity Scarlett for misunderstanding her values, for not appreciating what she has. We understand importance of things we have only when we lose them... And it seems to me that Scarlett and Rhett wouldn't be able to be together. They'll live rest of their life regreting the happiness which they hadn't...
You agree with me? Or, maybe, not? Please, tell me your opinion.

"Gone With The Wind" is one of my favorite movies of all time. I have never read the book. Dear Scarlett was quite the spit fire. At times her own worst enemy, but I have to admire her strength and courage during a difficult time in history. Like each one of us she wanted to be loved. In her quest to acquire and hold onto love it's a bit sad she yielded to desperate unhealthy ways.
Julia, I'm a pure romantic at heart and wish happy endings for all. In many ways Rhett was perfect for her. He got her and could handle her childish outbursts and
was strong and confident enough, in his spirit, to put her in her place when she acted out in rude childish ways. I like to think they ended up together. There relationship (marriage) would not have been boring. They both (in their own way) were strong willed passionate individuals. That passion would bring about many heated discussions and fireworks from time to time. It would also be the force that would keep the fires of their love burning bright.

EasyToSay, glad to see someone sharing my point of view!
ColoradoDreamin, I'd like to think happy ending is possible for them. They are very similar by their souls, but Rhett was so disappointed in life, in love... In the end he is a man who doesn't believe in anything, doesn't care about himself and tries to muffle his pain drinking alcohol. He lost the shine in his eyes...
It was true love, but it couldn't exist because of silly illusions...

Hm. In the most positive of endings, I'd like to say they'd both realize what was wrong and say goodbye...
But according to my experiences, two people can actually be stupid enough to keep trying even when they know something is wrong or missing. Maybe it would end in a separation, but in that time period... eh.
I can't say I'm the most familiar with the book. I haven't read it in years.
I applaud you for original thought. :] Have a great day.

Chelseaward, thank you!
It would be difficult for them to say goodbye, especially because they're married. But happy-end is not possible in their case. Though Scarlett wants to get Rhett back, I don't think she will succeed.
Have a great day too!
P.S. I'd recommend everyone to read this book or see a film...:)

I have seen the movie & read the book. I think maybe they would have gotten back together. Scarlett screwed up everything no doubt about it but I am seeing a relationship with my own 2 eyes take a direction I NEVER thought it would, a relationship that like Rhett and Scarlett was over. So I don't know. People sometimes surprise you.

Faith, thanks for sharing your opinion!
You're right, people can surprise us. And thought about them staying together has also right to exist...

They'll get back. It's a movie and there's no money in them staying a part.

The book is the original. And I think film didn't express all nuances of their feeling...
But thanks for comment!

I think Scarlet blew it. Rhett got fed up and moved on. It's typical - some women (sometimes myself) don't realize what they've got until it's gone.
