 dilemma
you could find it ridiculous but it's really difficult for me.
there will be my birthday next weekend. and you know all relatives and friends always ask what to give me as a present. this year eitgher. but the problem is that now it's my 18th birthday... and everybody wants to present me something special, rather expencive and for long term.
and every day they ask me "Julia, what do you want?". it annoys me, because I don't know what present I want...

maybe you will advise some present for me... cause I'm in confusion... really

Hi Julia -- Like you, I never know what to tell people to get me. Many times I don't know what I want and other times what would make me happy isn't available at any store. I checked your profile, but didn't learn much about you. Like Hollis suggested I enjoy gift certificates. Books are a passion of mine and it's so nice to be able to go to the book store and pick out whatever I want. Perhaps a diary or journal. They have some very nice ones with pretty covers and you could use it to keep your thoughts or poetry forever recorded. Think of your hobbies .... think about what brings a smile to your face or makes you happy. If it's painting ... then paints and brushes .... if it's hiking ... then something you could use while doing that ... if it's jewelry then that. An 18th birthday is important. When I was 18 my cousin bought me a beautiful pearl necklace that I still treasure even today in my 50's. Peace.

Thank you very much!!!!
yes, book is a good gift and I have already "order" it! my parents insist on presenting me some jewelery... but my style is a bit different. I like casual comfortable clothes, so gold or silver doesn't approach it. although it's possible that in future I'll change my style.
I have always dreamt about own computer... but I don't know if it is a good idea...

Do you have a charity you like - - maybe a local zoo, a shelter for women/kids - - you could ask them to contribute to some deserving organization from a list of your choosing, in the amount they planned to spend on you. That way many people could benefit from your birthday! Also, then the pressure is off of you, trying to come up with an answer to what you want ...

you know, in our country charity is not really wide-spread... maybe we haven't come to this level of progress. =)
although sometimes I think about charity...

Lucky Julia,

How about a lucky charm. I don't mean a lucky charm. I mean a real "lucky" charm. I do believe in luck and so do you, I think, and imagine owning something that really does bring you luck. One that you promise to never abuse or take advantage of but one that you would only use when you or someone you love need it. I believe in luck and if you ever get a "lucky charm" it will be the most cherished gift you'll ever receive and the price is irrelevant for it's the luck that it brings you which is priceless.

hmmm... MrP, it's an unusual gift. but well, I'd like to receive it!
but I think that not every thing can become a talisman... what thing is the best for it in your opinion?

I went to a thrift store once and they were having a sell that you could buy all the clothes you could fit into a large sack for 1 dollar. Well, I'm a big Arkansas Razorback fan (it's a college sports team) and so I bought every article of clothing I found that had a Razorback symbol on it (all were sweat shirts - about 15). So after that whenever the Razorbacks played a game (football, basketball, baseball or track) I put on one of the shirts during the game. It they lost then I either gave the shirt away or used it as a rag. If they won I saved that shirt to use again. After a while I was down to one shirt (my lucky shirt) and it worked for months until I messed up and took it off during a game and it has never worked since. Anyway that's how I knew it was lucky and that's why I told you to be careful once you have found something that is indeed lucky.

oh, lucky shirt =)
that's nice!
as for me, I had a lucky bracelet, but unfortunately I lost it... and now I'm looking for a new talisman =)

do you play any instrument? if yes, then ask for a new and shiny one! if you dont, then ask for one and try playing, if that interests you. music is one of the most beautiful things in life. and if you can become a part of it, wouldn't that be wonderful?

Oh, thanks!
Honestly, I can't play any musical instruments. But I'm always into music, my ears with headphones :)
And, to tell you the truth, I haven't musical hearing, so it'll be almost impossible for me to play something right...
But thanks for the idea!!!

Oh god, I so understand where you're coming from - I hate that question with a passion. I can never answer it either.

I can't really answer this one for you, but the "go to" gifts for when you're out of ideas, money, and like Hollis suggested, gift certificates, are always good. Not very exciting, but good.

I know it ain't much help, but I thought I'd put some input in anyway. :P

Ha, thanks!
I hope next year I'll make up my mind and ask for something really deserving for me.
But this year I was presented with a lot of gold jewelery. Well, not really a lot, but more then enough for me :)

long term? how about a baby tortoise?they live like a million years. or maybe a real parrot.
Posted by  AllThingsBuck  on 2008-07-03 17:03:42

Hmm... A pet... The last ones I had were fishes in the aquarium. But, unfortunately, they usually live no longer than 1,5 years.
I'll think about tortoise!

Hmm.. I also dread this question since I am never sure of my answer either. I would say a gift certificate to your favorite store, some dvds or cds that you have seen/listened to lately and you liked, a gift certificate for gasoline would be an amazing gift! [well I think so], or just money since you can spend it on whatever you like. :]

I see this problem is quite frequent among the people :)
Well, yes, certificate is a good thing. I satisfied myself that it's true )
