 Leisure
So, I'd planned to write something at least once a week...this has obviously failed miserably. My excuse is studying for exams...or more truthfully, adamantly NOT studying.
But either way, I've been otherwise preoccupied and haven't been able to write anything really. In fact I shouldn't be writing now... But I wanted to do something, if to entertain just a few people, and seeing as I'm not quite ready to put up anything of my own, here's a poem I quite like. Seems kind of apprpriate for me at the moment, what with all my studying, rushing, and stressing. So here it is:
Leisure - by William H. Davies

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

And there you have it. It's not exactly a classic or anything, but I like the imagery, and that it makes me think about how life is these days. Like how in school now it's all about tests, and marks, and assignments, and exams. It doesn't matter as much any more whether or not you truly LEARN what you're told, but more that you can study and remember things well enough, and that the score you get overall is high enough to get you into that course in university/college. You can't just go and learn anything these days, without getting an assignment on the subject and worrying more about getting that done and handed in on time than actually retaining the information. *huff*
I truly miss my leisure. As a t-shirt I have says: Leisure is being allowed to do nothing.
I totally agree. Doing nothing can sometimes be the best thing for you. I try to regularly do it...or not do it?
Well, anyway, there's my little rant for tonight! Hope someone likes the poem, and maybe one day I'll write something of my own to put up.
