The other day me and my boyfriend Darby were talking..and he told me he's going to join the marines with his best friend Allan, that it's his dream. I asked him why he wanted to go into the Marines, and his response, ''To blow up stuff!'' And he was being totally serious. I asked him about the thought of actually being drafted or the thought of being deported from base to base all the time..I honestly think that when you're about to start and raise a family that really wouldn't be fair to the kids you have to always keep moving them from state to state for the military...don't get me wrong, I totally respect the men in the military for putting their lives in danger for civilians, but I just think my boyfriend is being way too ignorant to even fathom. I asked him the thought about dieing, and his response? "Oh, I won't die! It's not like I'm going to get shot!" I just hate the ignorance he's having in thinking this desision, him and his friend. When I asked Allan he said the exact same things.. "Oh, there's no way I could die! I'm like the freakin' Hulk, you're being really stupid about this Jamie!" and I tell them that they never know what could happen, a lot of random things can happen if they're overseas somewhere, yet they just shun my idea.  I want them to actually see the reality of it, of that the marines isn't just about shooting and killing.  There's a reality to it, and there's always a chance that you will die, even if you think you're the strongest person on earth.  It also really worries me that Darby does sign up, and then he'll realize it's not what he expected to be and he'll have to spend 4 years being where he doesn't want to be.

I realize they're teenage guys and they can just be off the top in confidence and testosterone, it still just gets on my last nerve. I know I need to respect Darby's hope and I try to but when his only reason to want to join is so he's with his best friend and blowing up things, it's not really that easy to support him with such a desision...
