A comment from a friend for your consideration...
My friend Jason said this in response to a previous blog entry that said I believe Chine is the next superpower...

"i believe that china is already more powerful than us and we have already fallen. if we continue on this path of wreckless abandon we will slip further and further into debt. the stimulus package that is being granted to taxpayers all over the country has been funded primarily by a loan from china. the funny part is i don't believe it will work to spur a difference in our economy due to the fact that 90% of goods are manufactured in foreign countries. who's economy are we trying to stimulate. the irony is that we borrowed approximately 190 billion dollars from a world superpower. only to give most of the money they lent us right back to them. we need to take a very serious look at the way our country is operating and do something about it. if a sensible sollution cannot be reached i fear that we are en route to a depression far worse than the one of the WWII era."

Do you agree or not? Why or why not?

What made me think to post this is that yesterday I was looking at a map here in the office. It shows steel trade flows throughout the world. There are huge arrows from all over the world showing the flow of steel products into the US. But there are no arrows going from the US, except for 2 tiny ones into Canada and Mexico. It really made me sad. I don't understand what the US is doing by importing everything. What do we make? What is our country about? "Services"? I don't know. But I tend to agree with Jason's assessment. A few weeks ago we were having a discussion in our Pittsburgh office about the economic stimulus package. And my boss said the same thing as Jason: the money is not really going into "our economy" but it's really going to other nations who make the products we're buying. So true what Jason said above. Does our government realize it?  I don't understand how they can think it's ok to have such a huge trade defecit,  to be financing a war that will cost us trillions and trillions of dollars, to have a healthcare system that's not about helping sick people but about making money, and so on and so on......  So many problems.............   But there will always be problems and there will always be complaints, I guess there's no getting around that.......

"We should start learning Chinese," is what Jason said to me today....  He's probably right!

Any thoughts???

By the way, that $300 I got from the gov't?? ...... Will it help me? I'll be honest... I'd need a hell of a lot more than that to consider myself really helped....
