In the 70's, it was dobermans. In the 80's it was german shepards, and in the 90's, rottweilers. In Alaska, they considered instituting a mandatory neuter/spay policy and registration of all dogs with any wolf in them. There is always a canine scapegoat for human negligence.
The term "pit bull" is generally used to describe a huge variety of different breeds. If you fear any one breed, you are not fit to own and care for ANY dog. Dogs responses are directly related to our training and attitudes, so if you are insecure and unsure of your self as a handler, the dog, ANY BREED OF DOG, will become the same way which can lead to aggression.
Further, I urge anyone who believes in the destruction of this breed to find the biggest, scariest, most vicious looking pit bull, give him a treat, pat him on the head and look him in the eye. You'll indefinitely see the love and loyalty that every dog is capable of having. |

Well said.
It is not about the breed, but about the raising, caring and training of the animal.

I am right behind you on that one. I grew up with dobermans. They are watch dogs but they are also big babies. I have yet to meet a mean pit bull. They get a bad rap. They are just big babies. I hate dog fighting. I could kill anyone who does that shit. I hate all animal cruelty.
Thank you for this post.

I was carrying a puppy (6 mths) staffy-whippet cross-breed in my arms this morning. She's called Chelsea and she's a rescue pup. Bought for the 'look' she soon took over house and home with her boundless enthusiasm.
She has so very much love to give... to the right family. Soon, very soon.
We see heaps of westies in this area, bought for their pure looks and discarded when they show signs of yellowing around their mouths.
Also, husky types... I guess it's the wolf thing. I know of only one man here fit to keep his, and I have to say when it comes to look-alike stakes, they'd win it hands down. lol

I agree with you in that a dog is all training. I have a rottie and she is the sweetest dog. I do believe that pitbulls have a greater likelihood to turn on you. I have seen 2 that have turned on their owners. I do believe it's because they were provoked but I have more respect for that breed then for others.

YES!! That is absolutely CORRECT!!! I agree 100%!!! It is not the dog that is "BAD" it is the OWNER!!!!!
NO DOG IS BAD NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF BREED!!

Agreed, the breed doesn't make the dog, never has. To think so is assumption.
