Sarah Palin's endorsement of the conservative candidate, Hoffman, in the NY 23rd Congressional race over the liberal Republican backed by both the state and national party. Newt Gingrich had also endorsed her, I guess because she is on the Republican ticket.
Noting Palins' endorsement, Santorum, Kyl, and a bunch of others also endorsed Hoffman.
Palin declared when she resigned the governorship that she was going to support fiscally responsible, family orinted, and pro-life candidates, regardless of their affiliation. So she is just doing what she said she would do.
If, by chance, Hoffman actually wins, every Blue Dog Democrat will begin to shake in their boots, or call Palin to let her know where they stand. Either way, it a game changer for the 2 party system. Not since Perot has there been a threat to their authority, and thus, they have looked the same to the electorate.
Some will say, like Gingrich, that this will give the Dems more victories and split the party. Since only 19% of the electorate say they identify with the Repubs, ..who cares.
What will happen is that Conservatives, regardless of their party, will unite behind Palin,(for lack of someone better) and change the landscape. I don't know if Palin will run for President, but if she can change thinking of both parties to where the Congress is full of Conservatives after the 2010 elections, then I don't care. She can draw a crowd, she can raise money, she can sway closely contested elections..(.and retired people are looking for someone who will champion them instead of thinking of ways to screw them) if she can run off the crazies running our Congress now-(approval rating of 21%)-then she will have done her job. Conservatives desperately need a leader, I hope she delivers.
More power to her. Goodbye Newt, hello Sarah!
