Do you remember the night you held me as I wept in your arms? Your soothing voice acting as a calming current running through my distraught heart. I made myself completely vulnerable to you, exposed to the core. You sat so gently, unmoved, not shaken by my unbearable demeanor.
"My father has cancer."
This was not in the least bit the language you anticipated to escape from my mouth.

Nothing more needed to be said. Your knowing nod of acknowledgement was sufficient in letting me know it was okay. You were shaken and exposed, yet remained stoic and wise behind your masquerade of tears. You asked for nothing but compasssion, you asked for nothing at all. With the touch of your cheeck as an obligatory reminder of the essence of love.

You don't remember that night. Just the idea of ever having to know that pain makes my soul shiver. I was left, abandoned, alone. Left to fend for myself, to stare the cold world in the face and scream "FUCK YOU" withouth the backbone of love that I had once known so well. You don't remember that night. Distraught, trembling, a shaky right hand clasping onto my cigarette as I took a drag and exhaled the thoughts of yesterday and its beautiful innocence. You don't remember that day. Your death a constant reminder of the power and pain of love unforgotten.
