Boycott the Olympics on 2008-03-30 08:14:00 |
|
I haven't watched an Olympiad since the one in Atlanta. It's all just a huge sesspool of corruption anyway.
A real scandal in the making's getting these athletes to perform in an unacceptable level of air pollution. This is a very tangible scandal that would affect EVERYONE involved.
Love the next to last paragraph! It's so true! Call it Pax Bushica.

A Shining City on a Hill on 2008-03-29 07:09:02 |

The thing is, though, it would seem to me that most Americans are incapable of seeing anything EXCEPT in comic-book terms of 'Good' and 'Evil'. Our media, our pop culture, our political leaders talking in terms like 'Axis of Evil' (when you've gone the past five years without clean water, or electricity, and have to traverse a deadly obstacle course in order to get food for your family, can't you be forgiven for ruminating over who the term 'Evil' might be applied to?), only points to this. I think the concept of 'Gradations' tends to bore most Americans.
Europeans, after two milleniums of war and pestilence seem to have evolved to the point of understanding 'Gradations'. How long will it take us? And, what tribulations must we endure?

Meanwhile, find another Liberal who thinks THIS way: I believe in personal responsibility. I believe that you make your own breaks in life. I think that my life, the way it is now, is not the fault of Society, or of George Whisky Bush, or of impressarios feeding me boy bands or mindless, untalented bimbos who lip sync, but of the choices I made, many many years ago. I make no excuses, or apologies.
I think that aborting a baby just because it interferes with you gearing up for a 5K run is not only irresponsible, but immoral and reprehensible as well. Yes, you made your Choice. Who does that reflect upon?

There's a friend of mine in Pennsylvania who has a bumper sticker on his car that has the word 'Abortion', with the letters 'b' and 'r' crossed out. Replacing them are the letters 'd' and 'p'. Adoption.
Very clever. I'm in wholehearted agreement.

Rules for Hotel Guests on 2008-03-23 18:28:10 |
|
I'd love to apply rules like this for customers who get loaner vehicles when they bring their cars in for service. For instance, charge an automatic $50 or $75 flat fee for bringing the car back without filling the gas tank. And, if they smoke, for the drivers seat heater to catch fire...
Nah, that's over the top ;)

Yes, Happy Easter. I love it on the square white you'd commonly find in eating establishments here. My fave combination's horseradish cheddar and thinly sliced tomato on a good Jewish rye. Outstanding!

Toad, back in 1999, My wife and I went to church on a Sunday with a dear friend who moved away. The service was very nice. The minister was a sniveling, smiling, sanctimonious type, but it didn't diminish the experience...until he took it upon himself to rain hatred on the Usual Suspects in the pantheon of ecclesiastical enemies- Gays, Liberals, free-thinkers, tree-huggers, etc. To this very day, I'm sorry I didn't get up during his spewing of sewage and ask back the $20 I put in his collection plate. Show me Christ's Love, Mr. Weasel, and not your failings. I'm not here for THAT.
Multiply this by so many pulpits in the US on so many Sundays...and you'd then wonder why people are getting so worked up about some extraordinarily wayward individual as Jeremiah Wright. Preaching hate from the pulpit's as American as a cheeseburger.
White America has yet to come to grips with the Jeremiah Wrights. They're out there, they're NOT going away, no matter what you do. They're going to remain there, doing what they do...and won't subside until we start making strides toward being a better society. Looking at the likes of what's out there now, this definitely won't happen in any of our lifetimes.

I'm still coming to grips with the fact that most people would prefer to believe in a lie, than the truth, which might be standing over them like one of the alien ships in 'Independence Day'. Depressing, because I recently realized that it's ALWAYS been like this...some think it's only a recent phenomenon!

I'm nervous, a bit scared, and very excited. This has been long overdue.

Yes, Outback is a chain of Australian themed steak houses, with cute radio commercials. Every time you pass one, there's a line to get in stretching all the way to Honolulu, which demonstrates the power of clever advertising- the food ain't that great anyway.

Canadian Interference in US Primaries? on 2008-03-06 21:53:25 |

I'll go one further: Why not have a non-binding poll, say administered by the CBC, for instance, asking Canadians to vote for President of the United States? I'm sure Stephen Harper would find the results somewhat curious.

What the place is, is a SITCOM.
It's a daily sitcom, without station breaks, without commercials. Many of the employees are stock sitcom characters out of central casting, and our customers are like the whacks who you'd see on 'Barney Miller' and 'Night Court'. Now, I think it's the percentages working against me- I can't remember having to put up with a guy like that anywhere else, and that it was only a matter of time. I think of it as a kind of Divine test.

My measure of beauty really lies in a woman's personality. The final litmus. Of course, the sexual magnetism is indeed strong, but ultimately, it's a woman's personality that wins or loses it...

You'd have a blast in my place, man.
Look-Abraham Lincoln once said that the guy who worked for himself last year, might wind up working for himself this year, and next year, might be successful enough to hire people to work for him.
Perhaps it's time to go into business for yourself. Put that focus of yours to good use...
