I was just sitting here, on my first day of my week-long Spring Break, just thinking. Of course not doing homework. I'll just procrastinate on that. But ANYWAYS.
I was thinking about what a friend of mine said awhile back. In today's society, a person (especially teens and early 20's) either have very low self-esteems or very big egos. You either have someone pushing back compliments or giving themselves ones. Why can't there be a "happy medium"??? What happens when you find a friendship where someone feels like they're not good enough and the other who thinks that they're the hottest thing alive? I don't think that will be a strong friendship in my opinion. Both need reassurance in different ways. One because she always gets it, the other because she never does. One looks at herself and sees perfection, the other only sees flaws. But when the "eg0tistical" one gets called on it, she names off imperfections and therefore gets the reassurance anyway.
I try to be the girl who accepts compliments sincerely. I feel like I'm constantly going in between thinking I look good, then comparing myself to someone else and bringing myself down.
Everyone needs someone that sees their beauty: outer and inner. Whether that person is a friend, boyfriend/girlfriend, or family member, it doesn't matter. There are always going to be people out there who are smarter, better looking, faster, prettier, taller, shorter, funnier, etc etc etc than you but as long as there is ONE person who appreciates you and sees your beauty (even if you don't completely believe them), you are more blessed than you'll ever know. And if you're the person who compliments someone that won't accept them, keep doing it and don't give up... I'm sure they appreciate it a little. Without you, they wouldn't have the other side of the argument. Just remember: God made us in His image... we are who we're suppose to be in every single way, every single imperfections. Your imperfections are what make you: you! They make you unique and beauitful.. you just have to use them! |
