 Sorry Day .
Today at our federal parliament , our prime minister will deliver an apology to the Aboriginal peoples of Australia . Not just the ' stolen generation ' but all descendants of the first residents of this land . This a very necessary and long overdue event . Some commercial media outlets still believe it is an issue that should be dictated by public opinion . It is not .  When we invaded this country and attacked the original tenants , we did consult with them or ask their opinion .  Terra Nullius was the term used . It means empty land . No one worth mentioning was living here when us whitefellas turned up . Or so our arrogant , imperialist mindset told us . So if  Paul in  Daisy Hill thinks we should not have to apologise  well too bad Paul , get some knowledge and be part of our nations' healing process .  Apart from sorry the other word being put about is ' compensation ' .  I don't think any amount of money can change the past . I do however think that making amends is about more than words . Today marks the start of a new era in Australian society .
