The Olympic torch has just passed through Canberra the capital of Australia . Five hundred federal police agents guarded the proceedings assisted by the Chinese ' flame attendants ' . I have to ask who these ' attendants ' are having heard that those men are ex Chinese military , maybe even former special forces . In case the world has forgotten Australia has some of best trained security and special forces in the world . So  why does China need to have its' own personnel here on Australian soil ? The media spoke of the lack of incidents at the event . Could that be due to the large metal fences and corrals erected for the occasion ? Also Chinese national students ( presumably visiting as part of exchange programmes ) some thousand of them were transported to  Canberra to bolster the numbers of pro China supporters . Some organizer ( probably AFP ) had a brain wave and thought placing the pro Tibet and pro China supporters side by side would be a good idea . The fact that China with its' human rights record , choking pollution and nepotistic oligarchic ' so called '  government could be allowed to host the Olympics shows that is an event that goes to the highest bidder . This is no big secret , nor is the dire economic effects  an Olympics creates . Venues made for one event with transport infrastructure that is discontinued after the event has finished . White elephants is a term that comes to mind .  What is truly disturbing to me is the combined power of the IOC and the Chinese government .  China has for a long time brooked no criticism of any of  their actions . Seems now with the billions and trillions of wealth being generated now in the middle kingdom that the old adage ' money talks ' is true more now than ever .
