I watch the morning news and see another young man has been bashed to death at a taxi rank . This time in Caloundra , Friday night just past . The rank was of course situated near some bar or nightclub . I can imagine the type of guy that instigated the attack . The sort that try to push in at the line for the bar , the sort that shove past the crowds about them . And not because they are out of it . But because they can . We knew them at school as bullies .
It is a strange paradox that it is considered a barbaric act to beat someone up , even kill them . Yet I would go to jail for a long time if I had to ' deal with' some violent thug . You cannot always talk your way out of it or just run away . I believe some things are worth fighting for . Only a person who knew very little about combat would think that a couple of punches would suffice in dispatching some footy player on a cocktail of speed and rum . The parents of the young man murdered must be devastated . I hope the attacker gets a very long time in jail and his family become ostracised in their local community . It's the least they deserve .

Totally agree! I grew up visiting Caloundra nearly every school holidays and was saddened (although not surprised) to hear that this type of behaviour has reached Caloundra.
It's certainly nothing new that "one punch can kill" as David Hookes' family are all-too familiar.
I hope that for once, the people masquerading as magistrates realise that the public are sick and tired of hearing these types of stories and that the cowardly grubs that do these types of things get nothing but a slap on the wrist, while the families left behind have a life sentence without their loved one.
Grrrr, it makes me so mad!!!
