Tonight is the second Preliminary Final of the AFL. (Australian Football League) Now...... you are simply not an Aussie if you don't support a team in the AFL, especially if you are a Victorian like me! Victoria was initially the home of Aussie footy but in recent years, interstate teams have joined and now it is a national icon. Aussies simply love their footy!
But back to tonights match. The Collingwood Magpies versus Geelong Cats. Now me..... well, I guess I am a semi supporter of the Collingwood Magpies, by default. Funny, I never thought I'd ever say that! The rest of the family barrack for them, I know more players in the team than in any other team, an associate is actually on the Collingwood Board and well, you guessed it! Over recent years I have succumbed to the inevitable...... *hanging my head in shame*.
You see, Collingwood supporters have a reputation, and it is far from a reputable one. WAAAAAAY FAAAAAAR! Ummmm, they are basically known to be foul mouthed and yes feral! Despised by just about all other football supporters! Can you imagine me? Feral! That's just....... well wrong!!!!
One year not too long ago, the Pies made it to the Grand Final. My hubby had a ticket to go to the match, but he was unwell at the time and was unable to go. So I made an extra effort. I decorated the entire house in black and white streamers and balloons, the teams colours. And I have to say..... they played like schitte!!!! A disgrace, and my hubby was mortified beyond belief. They were just so, so bad!
So now my hubby has just headed off to the game with his dad, as only special members are granted the chance to obtain a ticket to tonights big match. He has text me to tell me they are in the queue, and will most likely get a seat. Mind you... it is still 4 hours until the bounce of the ball but you know men..... Aussie men simply love and are so passionate about their sport!
So tonight I am having my own little footy party with my munchkins, Master 9 and Miss 7. We will watch the game on the tv, telecast live because it is a sellout. We have snacks, hot dogs with sauce and ice creams for dessert. I know...... not exactly healthy food but who cares! It's the footy! And no....... no decorations in the house yet. If by chance they actually win and make the Grand Final next week, I'm still not going to buy a single streamer or balloon. I know what most likely will happen!
But although I never thought I would ever say this, and I know Kellie will be disgusted, but it really is for my hubby and my munchkins....
