Today I feel as if my munchkins and I have reached a little milestone,
well at least we are all out of bed for a while!
Actually, apart from a raging headache,
I really am feeling somewhat more human.
Did you know that here in Victoria, doctors are no longer testing patients who present with flu like symptoms for swine flu!
Yep, if you are usually generally healthy and have no
'at risk' features such as diabetes, asthma, are immunosupressed,
are very young or very elderly, or have any other major health issues....
you are presented with a cute little white face mask and off you go
on your merry way! I hate those things....
I now remember why I never worked in the OR!
Tamiflu is not being prescribed either.
Not only is it $80 and needs to be taken within the first 24 hours
of symptoms, but it also has the side affect of severe
nausea and vomiting for some unlikey 30%.
No thank you.
So.... I'm sitting here trying to think of something lighthearted
to write about, and my new fridge comes to mind.
Last weekend we purchased a new fridge!
Yeah..... exciting right! I know!
We renovated our kitchen nearly two years ago
and installed some new appliances but lets face it,
no one has the money just to upgrade everything simply because
stainless steel may be more pleasing to the eye.
Well, we don't anyway.
Although still working, our fridge was broken in parts
and with the end of financial year sales we were able to
haggle for a good price
on a nice big stainless steel fridge!
There is just one thing that bothers me though.......
it reminds me of a morgue!
When I started my nursing career I worked in a hospice
and it was part of our role to take deceased patients to the morgue.
Needless to say of the two years in which I worked there
I visited that place far too frequently!
We would always treat every one of our patients
with the dignity, care and respect they deserved.
Many of these patients we grew to love.
But there was one time when a work collegue of mine,
yes he was a he and was much larger than myself.....
decided it would be 'amusing' to lift me over his back
and try and put my on the shelf and into the morgue!
Needless to say I begged, screamed and smacked him until he knew
I really, really, really meant it but I can tell you this....
there is NO WAY anyone will ever put me in one of those things
until my time is truly up!
He was a good guy.... a practical joker and I know
there were times when our sense of humour boderlined on absurdity,
but given what we were dealing with on a daily basis....
I really can understand why.
So my nice new morgue..... sorry fridge,
looks great in the kitchen and I know it will serve me well
for many years to come.
Now, if you'll just excuse me
I think I'll go stick my head in my new morgue.....
ummm fridge to soothe my fevered brow!
It's nice to be back!
