 Australia Remembers

Sunday 22nd February....

Australia's National Day of Mourning.

"Together for Victoria"

The day when Australians unite and have chosen to pause,
to remember all those who have tragically lost their lives
in the horrific bushfires these past two weeks.

We remember each and everyone of them.
We pick up the newspaper and see
so many smiling faces looking back.
Grandparents, parents, teenagers and children.....
we have lost so many children.

Currently the death toll stands at 209.
Approximately 120 more people are missing.
More than 8000 people are homeless and still,
the  bushfires continue to burn.

We pause to remember those who have lost everything,
but escaped with their lives.
Their families, friends, pets and homes may be gone,
and a lifetime of memories destroyed in rubble and ash.
Yet these memories will remain alive in their hearts.

We pause to remember those brave souls
who battled these blazes with so much courage and heart.
Although against a formidable force,
their efforts were not always in vain.

We thank our neighbours from around the globe...
 USA, Canada, New Zealand, Indonesia,
just to name a few,
who have come to help us in this battle.
We pray as their fight continues even now,
that they stay safe and unharmed.

We hope all those touched by the bushfires
find the strength they need to go on.
To be able to deal with the aftermath of what they
witnessed on these horrific days.
One step at a time...
One day at a time.

Together we unite with the will to go on.
To clear the debris and rubble.
To once again,
 rebuild these communities
and their lives.

One by one if we have too....
but we will do it.

And we'll do it together,
because that's what people do...
that's what Australians do.

We will never forget......

Well said KB.
For all of us here in the States we will
pause and say a silent prayer for all of the people
affected by that terrible disaster. Many blessings
to all Aussies as you pause and take notice.
God Bless you all...

This American wishes to join all Australians on this day of reflection, prayer and national mourning. While the places we call home have different names, we are members of one human race. A sea of humanity joining hands, around the world, in care, love and concern for each other. Hugs & Peace.

Touching sentiment. Last night here in nearby San Francisco they had a Aussie Wine Tasting Night to benefit the survivors.I'm sure there is many more hands reaching out to help, after this terrible tragedy. If won't forget, either.

This was beautiful Kaybee! Thank you for posting that. You are all in our thoughts and prayers over here, we are wishing for a fast recovery for those injured, and a home for those who are currently homeless. It's people like you that make the difference!

We have been listening to the BBC news this morning which has been reporting about the service in memory of all those who lost their lives and thanking the fire fighters. It was very touching and I pray it never happens again to that extent. I know nature has a strange way, but let's hope the arsonists who caused loss of life will have been humbled. God bless KB

Kaybee every time I read about the fires tears come to my eyes as I was in the 1939 fires and I know what people have gone thro, that poem is great, and as we aussies pull together we will get back again we fall down but we do get back up, Praise god that we are able to help each other. and coming home from Monbulk this afternoon the fires at Upwey it took me 2.1/2 hours just to go to Noble Park, when it only took 45 mins, to up there to Monbulk,we just have to keep praying for rain
God bless
Raymond
