My life’s story is written on tattered pages
In ink smeared in tears
Each page filled with joy and pain
Numbered by each passing year
Early chapters written with smiles
Frilly pink bows and laughter
Half smiles and rainy day memories
Follow shortly after
Love and loss incoherently told
Stretching from youth to older days
Pages written in hopeful song
New life promised and taken away
From the depths of written sorrow
My story’s heroine is a little girl
Big brown eyes and a beautiful smile
Saved my entire world
Trials and struggles came and went
In poetry and rhyme
Pages written and torn out
Mistakes highlighted and underlined
The forbidden pages marked in red
Run to July from June
Because I can’t relive the memory
Of saying goodbye to you
New hope springs in the midst of pain
As with loss comes new life
And unwritten pages waiting
To rescue me from strife
So I turn the page and smile
Readying my pen to write once more
Remembering each tear I’ve shed
And looking forward to what’s in store.
