I don't like the DMV, Cell Phones, or Children
Thursday afternoon. It is just a tad bit more productive than a Friday afternoon.

Today on my lunch break I had to go to the DMV and renew my tags. Apparently they didn't have my proof of insurance on file. Jerks. I left work, went to the bank, stood in line, deposited my check, and headed to the DMV. Might I remind your from my post this moring, that it was snowing out. Yes, it is still snowing, and it is still May 1st.

I gathered all my important papers and left my cell phone in the car and headed inside. I grabbed my number, 10, and with horror on my face realized they were only at 44. That means they go all around. And yes, 00 is a number. I sat down between these two older men. The place was crowded and smelled like people. Yuck. I hate that sweaty body smell. It was also full of familes with children. I am not a fan of waiting with lot's of children around.

The man to my right politely said something, and we started a little conversation. You know, talking about how we shouldn't have come at lunch hour, how he didn't think it would be this busy, then he reminded me that they were now closed Fridays and it was the 1st of the month. We made chit chat, and then were quiet for some time. It was an eternity. Finally they called 78, that was the man on my right. He said something like see ya later and went to do his business.

The man to my left said something to me, saying I overheard you say something to the other gentleman about your insurance or something. I found it odd that he didn't speak to me until the man left. We chatted for a while, more so than the other man. We talked about the storm, how he worked for Qwest and last year during some of our biggest storms when the post office had closed, he still had to work. He thought he should not have because it was a safety hazard. I replied that I think it should be law if the post office is closed, everyone is closed. That would never work I know, but it would have meant more snow days for myself and my DMV friend. We also talked about where I am from, he was fascinated. We talked about winning the Powerball. Very random things. And then just like that he was gone, number 94.

So I sat for a moment, an empty seat on either side. Listening to the girl behind me with the newborn chat on her cell. I think she was talking to her husband, gossiping about how her friends and then their mothers  meeting for dinner. Chatter that could have been saved for dinner conversation, or a time when you are not at the DMV. It was annoying.

Another woman behind me was chatting on her cell phone, talking about how her daughters car is making a funny noise, no it wasn't the brakes they had them checked and they were fine. She tells whoever she is talking to that he should tighten the bolts. Then she spent 20 min calling bakeries getting a price for a cake for her grandma's 73rd birthday which would be July 4th.  This is something I didn't need to hear about. Again, do this at home.

This is why I didn't bring my cell phone in. Because you are forced to sit and wait, if you miss your number you have to get a new one, and I didn't think anyone at the DMV would care to hear me talk about my life. If they care, they can read my blog. I find it so rude, mostly because have you ever noticed how LOUD people talk when they are on a cell phone. Its obnoxious, and rude. Step outside and take care of your personal business. Bring a book if you can't wait quietly with nothing to do.

Finally they called my number, 10. I looked at the clock, I had been there 1 hour and 45 minutes. I got to the counter, handed her my insurance, postcard with car info, and drivers license and started filling out my check. I didn't wait until she told me the total to write in the other lines. That really pissed me off. I noticed a lot of people who were not prepared. I guess that's why it takes 2 hours. A couple people had gone to the counter and forgotten things in their car or had to run to the atm machine in the front of the building (since they take only cash or check), so they leave their paperwork and say "I'll be right back" and they would leave and the DMV lady wouldn't help anyone till they got back. You can't save your place. NO! NO no no! People make me sick. You know what you are there for, if you aren't prepared, go to the BACK OF THE LINE. I am fuming thinking about it. It wasted my time. When I was at the counter it took me no more than 3 minutes. I waited 2 hours for 3 minutes of service. WTF?

Anyway, I am just venting. I have to go before I have a breakdown, this makes me so mad.
