I saw on tv that the red cross used large amounts of donations that were intended for 911 people to update their cooler systems. Like ungodly amounts of money!
When this was brought to light and got media attention the head person resigned and the courts ordered them to pay the money back. I never heard another word about it.

I think we have to find another way to donate. Or another place to donate to. I have known people to loose their homes to fire. They show up with a few food vouchers and a few nights hotel stays. You'd think with all the money that has been poured into them they could do way more.
I understand there are disasters everywhere but can't help but think they have mismanaged the money or found a way to keep it.

I believe it was last week that I heard on tv that the red cross was broke. They said they couldn't be of much help in any near future if they didn't get money. I'm not sure if they were asking the government or us people. I just don't trust them at all. I'd rather have a place to mail it directly to a person in need!

I suspect that what you're saying about the Red Cross could be said of a lot of "reputable" charitable organizations. One of my sisters donated, without permission, a van-load of my parents' possessions to the Salvation Army, and a week later, when my mom arrived to look for her stuff, all she found of the hundreds of dollars worth of belongings was an old, rusted music box (the first of many that my dad had given her). It's hard to believe that all those items were sold within a week, or that in one week only one pathetic item had been processed and put out for sale. On the other hand, perhaps the church "ladies" that my sister asked to take the stuff to the Salvation Army saw how valuable the stuff was and pilfered it, themselves.
