 When age is an issue
This may come out wrong and I am sorry if it does, but there is something on my mind that I need to clear.

I have been on thoughts now coming up to a year. And in that time I have seen people come and go. I have read many wonderful things in all genres. There have been loves found and some let go, there have been tears and laughter. The have been many friendships formed. And everyone has let us all in to their world. And for the most part it has been a great experience and ride to take with all.

The one thing that I noticed on here was that it was a very adult orientated site. (And I am not meaning in an explicated way), with the odd exception. And with those exceptions I had actually thought I was reading a wise adult only to be blown away by finding out they were only young teenagers. But of late I have noticed that the site seems to be getting invaded by younger children. What I mean by that is the other day I came across a blog and the person was only 13.

So I thought well everyone needs an outlet to speak their mind and thoughts. I went on to read this person. I started off by reading there profile. And what surprised me the most was how much personal information they had added, they may as well have added their phone number, every thing else was there for all to see. Then I went and read some of the posts. Nothing earth shattering there either. Not that I expect to read an earth shattering post each time or something that evokes my mind to think about things. But this post was utter junk. So I went on to read a second and third and once again I thought why bother. In fact this persons post seemed more suited to facebook or myspace. After that I went back to the profile and read some of the comments this person has left on others. Which then lead me to other post by different bloggers.

There was a theme; they were under the age of 18. They choose to use text language when writing and there was not content to the post. What I don’t understand is why use this form of writing. I mean how hard is it to write a word in its full and correct form. What ever happen to respecting the English language? Don’t they realise that when they become adults and go out in to “the real world” and get a job that this isn’t going to cut it. Wouldn’t it be better to learn to spell correctly now and not when you are older and struggling. Opps I digressed back to the point.

On the few that I did read they were all about 15 and 16 year olds having babies. Now I can’t say too much about this subject as I was one of these children when I was their age, but the difference I saw between how I was and how they are. I was damm sacred and frighten by the fact. These kids seemed proud of the fact they were pregnant.
Now I am not sure if there is an age limit on here, but the more and more these kids’ sign up for thoughts, the less and less I want to post, (but maybe there should be). This site for me is not only a place where I can meet and talk with new people and make new friends, but it is a safe place away from all the explicated content. This is a place I know that when I accepted a instant message from someone I am not going to be chatted up and asked about my sexually fantasies or what ever else.

So once again I am sorry if I have offended anyone with this, but it was something I needed to air out.

I agree that Thoughts seem to be having more kids around. (I'm not fully a grown up yet either). I agree that the kids now don't know much of the dangers of the internet as much. They write off their personal information like it was nothing to be bothered about, that's why things like internet predators know about them and stuff. To the fact that they use 'text language' is utterly insulting to English. (It's my opinion). Why can't we use English the old fashioned way, without shortening the words? Even though I'm not yet a grown up, I agree with you KP. And I don't find this offending at all. Not the very least. Teens are not scared that they got pregnant anymore. It's like gloating to say that they had sex and got pregnant and they're proud of it. If it were me, I would be damned right scared. They're not afraid anymore, they're having fun with it.

Although I believe this site should be open to anyone of any age and level of intelligence/depth, I agree with you about the disrepect of the English language. As a writer, it blows my mind that so many kids can barely write a grammatically correct paragraph. I am not sure if that is a reflection of the kids themselves, the educational systems, parents or this ever-changing and kind of scary world. I also compare myself as a teenager to the teenagers of today and the differences are mind boggling - makes me afraid to have children of my own. Of course, that is a generalization as there are MANY bright, sensitive, articulate and respectable teenagers out there as well.

I agree with that as well... it seems like adults have nothing to them selves any more. My spelling and gramar are horid and I can not make a perfect paragragh with out consulting my book I got from college. so I can not say much there. I have denied a few friends requests.... because of age. Because I may write some blogs that I will make friends only because of their content... and I hate doing that.
