Keeping the jobs in the country
Like many countries around the world, there have been a lot of companies taking their business off shore. Which in turn brings unemployment up and I know that people are trying to make money and save money, but lets just think about this for one second. If companies keep doing this and unemployment increases so do our taxes, as we then have to cover the short fall when it comes to welfare. But my main gripe is when these companies ring up using a phone number from your country, have a thick accent that is so hard to understand, pretending that they are just around the corner.

Well this is what I have been doing of late. And I know that it may have no difference what so ever to what the companies do, but at least in my mind I feel good about it.

Ohhh and what really gripes me is when they ring you, you answer and you get a message asking you to wait as an important call is waiting for you. Now WTF you rang me and now you can’t even have the decency to answer the call, just some automated answering service. When I get theses I usually hang up. If you ring me make sure you are on the other end as I am not waiting.

So lets get back to my call the other day, I get this person on the other end, I had to ask them 5 times where they were from (as in what company), as I could not understand them, when I finally worked out that it was my electrical supplier, I then said to them before we get started could I please ask where are you. And for some reason they are blown by this answer and ask for me to repeat it, then when they workout what I have asked, they just come out and say where, now most of the times it is in India. Then I politely say that they may put this on my file I don’t mind, however I will not be talking to anyone that is outside of Australia. And then I hang up.

I figure that if the call is important, either, I will have someone ring me back or I will receive a notice in the mail. But nothing no calls and no mail, so I will just keep waiting.

Is this fair, no not really, they need to work just like anyone else, however I want the jobs that belong in my country to stay in my country

Okay sorry rant is over.

Kp - I agree with you. It irks me big time when they call me and put either a recorded message telling me I'm the lucky winner, or they put me on hold or YES they are from a call centre off sure.

I am usually very well spoken on the telephone, but at these moments I become very rude, and outspoken. Sometimes I even put on my own accent and pretend I cannot understand them.

Keep Aussie jobs in Australia!
