Football season has started in Australia. Just a quick lesson to be had, in Australia we have a number of different leagues; there is Rugby Union, Rugby League, Soccer and AFL (Australia Rules). Depending on which state you live in, is dependent on which of these has the stronger following. Being in Victoria AFL is that. Not only are most of the teams based in Victoria, but we can boost being the home of AFL (originally know as VFL). There are 16 teams that you can follow. Six of these teams are interstate.
Our house is a mixed house, (dare I say it), and the female half of the house barracks for Collingwood and the males for Richmond. This week (round 3), finds these two teams playing against one another. This year my daughter has been paying more interest in the football compared to past years. Which I think is great, because she can sit down and have some one on one time with her father, and it also gives him a rest from having to know about all things Barbie, fairies, unicorns, and tea parties.
As we are one of the few house around that doesn’t have cable TV, we rely on delayed telecast on free to air TV, the radio or the internet to find out what is going on week after week. After some time my husband decided that he JUST had to know the scores. Only to find out that Richmond is loosing. And I just don’t mean by a few points, they are getting slaughtered. In fact you would possible think that the team has forgotten to show up for the game it is that bad.
So of course I say a few remarks nothing to harsh, just a tease, however my daughter rubs it in. I mean she gets the salt and really rubs it in. Does her victory dance, taunts her father and tells him his team is hopeless, and even goes into the kitchen and hands him a wooden spoon (what is given to the team that comes last for the season), and tells him that is all his team is going to get this year.
Needless to say this makes me laugh, actually hang on I was thinking the very same thing (Opps), and my husband did get slightly annoyed at the antics, but it was funny to see her behave like this. Although I do wonder were she got this from, it certainly wasn’t me. So I think I may have created a monster, all I have to do now is to teach her how to be a winner with dignity. Ohhh and some tact.
