What has happened to Christmas? Where has it gone?
For the last few days this has been a topic on many talk back radio stations here. It all started when a newspaper printed a letter from one of Santa’s helpers asking this very same question "What has happened to Christmas? Where has it gone? He was told that when he goes out in public in his suit, that he isn't allowed to say "HO HO HO Merry Christmas". When this was questioned he was told "It could be seen as derogative to women as well as possibly scaring the children.
"WHAT" is all I could say when I first heard this. Then I thought no this has to be a big joke, then I kept hearing it over and over again throughout the day.
Well as a woman I can say that I am not offended by "HO HO HO Merry Christmas" and I would be surprised if there is anyone. All I can say is take off the cotton wool and let us enjoy "Christmas" and if there is any women out there that is offended by this then thicken that skin. All this political correctness is going way to far.
As for children, aren't they the reason why we have this modern day Santa. At a local Child Care Centre there was an announcement that Santa wouldn't be attended the Christmas party, to the children they told them that this was because he was too busy, to the parents we were told, that due to the mixed cultures attended the centre that it wouldn’t be fair on those who don't choose to celebrate Christmas.
Well that is just it, it was there choice. This Centre has 300 Children attending it and out of the 300 children there is possible about 30 that are from non English backgrounds. Which leave 270 children that are. For those 30 children and I am assuming that not all of them fall into the category of not celebrating Christmas, so lets just say for augment sake that there are 15 children who don't celebrate Christmas all the others have to miss out. What ever happened to majority rules, why are we bowing down to the small handful. I can say that there are many disappointed children at this centre that are sad that Santa is unable to attended the Christmas party. (Btw in the past he has been there with bells on and making many a young child smile).
Ohh and as for being scared of Santa, my kids have never been scared by him and are not likely to ever. My 9 years old still believes and has told me she will always believe. For the love of children bring back Christmas, let us enjoy what we had.
This is only one iconic Christmas symbol that I have mentioned, but I know that there is others.
My last words to you on this subject are
HO HO HO Merry Christmas
