It has been awhile since I have given you all an update on Annie. So I thought I would jot down something quick.
Annie is home in her house and has been for a few months now. After her operation (hip replacement), and a month in rehab she went home. Just some minor adjustments were needed at her house, no more rugs or mat’s every where, and a railing in her bathroom. Other than that the rehab people were really happy with her place.
Now I am not one to think things over in the sense if it needs to be done than do it. Annie’s son on the other hand had to decide if he would get the railing done. So after some convincing words from me about how selfish he was being if he thought that his mother was going to stay in rehab till he decided if he was going to get them done. I did it. Of course I got Annie’s permission first as I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes, but I could tell she was desperately wanting to get home, and I am a firm believer that a person responds better to treatment when they are in their own surrounding.
So within days the railings we up and she was home, much to her delight. And yes she did improve more once she was there.
The unfortunate thing in all this is Annie is no longer allowed to work. However I have made sure that she is going out regular with other people in her age group and she is having a great time. I go over once a week to help her with shopping and anything else she needs help with, that she will let me.
It is funny the other day when I was over there, we had to have a little laugh on how our roles have reversed and now I am helping her when she is meant to be helping me.
My response. “We are helping each other”.
So all in all a good ending.
Oh and on a side note, the wonderful caring son that was so concerned about her railings has only been to see his mother once in the two months she has been home.
