So we all have something we fear, or something we feel compelled to do, whether it be consciously or sub-consciously. A real fear, not a general dislike, but something you truly fear. Maybe you have a constant habit, where you have to do it, or maybe you just do it. You don't even realize until someone points it out. Or maybe, you have a multiple things that really make you scared, or a number of odd habits that seem to take over. I'm curious to know what your fears, habits and possibly odd little "rituals" are? If you've never met someone in person, have you ever wondered who else shares your own fears/habits?
My fears? My habits?
1. I have an intense fear of boats. I really can't handle them. Some people have tried to tell me it's a fear of open/deep water or the ocean etc but no, it's a fear of boats. I'll happily jump on a Jet Ski without a second thought. Even watching a boat seen in a movie scares me.
2. My fear of germs. (I sometimes wonder whether this fear has been intensified by the fact that I currently work in the food industry. Our hygiene regulations are extremely strict, but I'm 99% sure I'm most aware.) I'm not sure if it's obsessive, I'm not stuck washing my hands all day, but I am highly aware of the possibility of germs or of them spreading in any way. If someone sneezes I cringe so much that it's as noticeable as someone moving 100paces away. I'm super strict on hygiene, I never share drinks, hankies are a complete no-no, tissues must be disposed of immediately, I fear and freak out about any form of contact with saliva and I always have hand sanitizer with me. I won't even let someone do anything until they've washed their hands after they've sneezed or coughed into them. If someones sick and touches something I need to tough, I'll make sure I wipe it down.
3. Until recently, I hadn't been aware of this and I believe it's because nothing scares me in movies the way dinosaurs do. That's right, I'm afraid of the extinct, a little silly huh? I'll watch a movie with them in (I'll even enjoy it!), but dinosaurs are definitely scary as.
4. Heights. I know, it's pretty common. Nearly every second person seems to be scared of them. but I never get around to asking them how it affects them. I know some people just won't go up, but I generally go up, unless it's like a ladder and there's no real security around me. If I'm on a high platform with no decent railings etc, I feel an overwhelming need to lie down completely flat. But on ladders, even if they just go up 6 or so steps, I can't look any higher than a 90 degree angle. I get dizzy and feel as though I'm falling, so I freak out.
5. My most noticeable habit is fiddling. But it only ever seems to occur at the table. I do it and don't even notice. I continuously mix any left over food, I'll play with a closed salt shaker, twirl cups, I'll tap utensils on anything, I "drill" spoons (sometimes knives) into the table, and on countless occasions I've even managed to flick food everywhere.
Going out to dinner has always been a little embarrassing, because nearly every time someone points it out, like, "what the hell are you doing". Once I'm aware, I stop, but a minute later when the subject has moved on, I start again. I have to literally sit on my hands.
Everyone has something, it'll only take a minute to write it down, even if it's just a word. Leave a comment. Happy sharing.
All my love
Ciao
