 Birthrights
The book of Genesis, chapter 25, in the Bible tells the story of Esau selling his birthright to his brother Jacob. In those days, the firstborn son had a right to most of his family's inheritance. Depending on the wealth of your family, this could be a significant sum of property and wealth. A poor man's son was to be pitied, for all that he'd inherit would be debts and responsibilities. It all came down to who the father was.

The Bible calls God our Heavenly Father. The Bible calls Satan the Father of Lies. Depending on who our father is, we'll receive an inheritance of goodness or evil. When God first created this earth, He was the father of us all. But when Satan corrupted human nature, he began a race of fallen human beings. Satan is the natural father of us all. We're born into sin. Naturally, we'll receive an inheritance of death and destruction. Yet Jesus had some good news for a fella who came to Him to ask what He was all about. Jesus said that a person could be born again (check out John 3). He said that we can be birthed into God's family even as grown adults.

Romans 8:28 says that God will work out everything for the good of His children. He doesn't say that everything will be good, but that it will all work out for good in the end. Our inheritance will be good. The God of the universe guarantees it.

I know who my Father is, and He's good on His word.
