| When nobody remembers it’s your birthday! |
Yesterday was my birthday. But it’s not like you would know it was. Nobody said happy birthday. Nobody sent me a card. Nobody got a gift. And, yes, that includes my family and so-called “boyfriend.” Wait, no – that’s not quite true – I got a birthday card from my insurance company thanking me for being such a valuable customer.
I am trying real hard not to take it personally. It’s just another day, after all. But I can’t help but have some hurt feelings here. Especially from my family. You would think I would at least get a phone call or email from my mother. After all, she is the person who brought me into this world. Is it possible that a mother could actually forget when a child’s birthday is? I don’t think I could do that with mine.
My boyfriend – eh….he’s a man I know - but I rather expected him to remember. Considering I mentioned it a couple weeks ago.
All day I kept thinking to myself that this must be some kind of joke. That they may be doing it on purpose in order to surprise me. Yeah – no. Called my mother, got the machine. Called my boyfriend, he went out to dinner with his boss. Gave up after that since things weren’t looking real positive.
I went out to lunch with my boyfriend today. He asked me if something was wrong because I wasn’t acting like “usual” self. I didn’t say anything. I mean, what do I say? “Hey, thanks for nothing. Oh, it’s OK that I spend a fortune on your birthday but you forget mine.”
I don’t even know if I should or will say anything. I’m kind of curious to know how long it will be before someone finally notices that my birthday came and went. What if they never notice? That would suck, wouldn’t it? I don’t even know how to say something like that. “Hey – missed you on my birthday – where were you at?” “Oh, no. I just stayed home and went to bed early since I was all depressed that no one gives a shit.”
I guess I need to quit being such a wimp about it. Not much I can do now.
