It was decided our 2 oldest sons would be Batman & Robin for Halloween. PERFECT! Themed costumes, great scrappin' photo op. Then you factor in that we have not 2 but THREE sons. Patrick and I ponder over what our youngest, Caleb could be. Never mind the fact that he is only 8 months old so finding a costume to match all this would be next to impossible. First he says THE JOKER. OK sounds do-able. We look online, nothing! All the stupid joker costumes would make him look like the joker in a deck of playing cards. My mom suggests THE RIDDLER.
Awesome!
We can totally pull that off, right? Go on a mission to find bright green sweats. Its a no go! Decide to buy white and dye them, again dead end. Tracy tells me I can buy GREY and do it that way. OK GREAT! I can do that. Find grey bottoms (he has a pair but im not using Carters sweat pants in case I ruin them, not THAT crazy). Can't find a sweat top but remember he does have a long sleeve onsie that I can use. It has survived 3 children and is almost too small anyhow so what the heck.
I then set out for green dye. Mind you I need BRIGHT GREEN. I go to 3 stores, only finding DARK green. Decide to cut the amount used and attempt a bright green. We ended up with a duller green but oh well, I really don't care. The concept should at least get put across right?
Yesterday I do the dye-removing as per the directions. Today I dye them, what a fun project that was. My sink was PUKE GREEN when I was done. 1/2 a bottle of bleach later its almost back to normal, whoops! Mental note, next time read directions fully. It says "do not use in bath tubs".... I guess one should just assume --do not use in porcelin sinks either--.
Tonight I get the kids in bed after a day of chasing Derek in and out of the bathroom (potty training rocks!!!!) and decide to finish Caleb's costume since I do have to fix Derek's mask and hem his pant legs tomorrow. Why oh why do I wait until the last possible minute? I can't for the life of me draw on felt, perhaps its not mean to be drawn on?? hmm, thought to ponder later I suppose. Then the light goes on, ya ya ya no one laugh, there really IS a brain up there I promise. I use my handy-dandy-CRICUT electronic die cut machine. I cut a bunch of question marks in various sizes on super thick white cardstock, then sticky them to the black felt and cut them out.... absolutely painless!!!
In the end this is the costume.... What do you think? If you saw a child wearing this while standing next to Batman and Robin would you get the concept?? I sure hope someone gets it or I am going to feel stupid.
The hat is just an extra but I doubt Caleb will wear it all night long. I thought of getting a beany and dying it neon orange (since the Riddlers hair was so bright) but couldn't even find ORANGE dye so I gave up before I started.
