The Little Girl
This is a poem that I had to write for my English class. Basically, it's a poem of what I'm thinking as I board a train that will lead me and my family to an internment camp during the war. So. Yup.

I sit down in my seat and let out a sigh
as the little girl across from me begins to cry.

I turn and look out the window
pretending I don’t hear the girls’ woe.

I don’t need anything more to bring me down
as the train slowly pulls away from our town.

I imagine the dark train’s exhaust
carries away my normal life, now lost.

My mother falls asleep beside me
dreaming of a time when we could be free.

I try to follow, and close my eyes,
but still can only hear the little girl’s cries.
