You either love it or hate. Dread it or anticipate it. It’s here, another year has passed (bitter and single, moi?!), the restaurants are overpriced and the anticipation is high, yes its Valentine’s Day!
So it maybe all well that your going out with the one you love for a romantic meal, or off to the cinema with a blind date, but whatever and wherever that may be, you’re gonna want to look like a million dollars, right…
And unless you fancy donning a bright red dress covered in love heart sequins for the special night that shout “I’m here”, then subtlety is the key this year.
Now tea dresses started to emerge just before Christmas but this Spring is the time for them really to come into blossom, and what better night to try them out. Think girly innocence at its purest but add a pair of vampy heels and the sexiness adds an edge that verges on naughty (in a nice way of course). For inspiration look to the 50’s and think floral. After all Spring will soon be sprung! Good high street versions come from Monsoon Fusion with the beautiful ‘Lopez Tea Dress’ in at £46. Wear it now with heels and tights but this gem will see you through to summer with some sandals (pray we get the weather this year).
Another girly indulgence is the blouse. Experiment as you will; floral prints (again, see a trend?), chiffon floaty material, shoulder volume, ruffles, neck detailing. All are good. And if you feel too prim, mix it with a mini skirt to show off long legs or a pair of wide leg trousers and brogues. For those not blessed with an ample bosom, the navy ‘Sleeveless Frill Front Blouse’ £25 from Topshop creates volume around the neckline and nods to the nautical trend that is everywhere too. Another pretty ‘Ditsy Print’ pussy bow neck version can be found at Next for £25, which will look just perfect tucked in!
And just so you boys don’t feel left out, take note for the special day.
For an outfit that will make the girls swoon try a coloured trench. Were not talking the obvious nu-rave-esque garishness here (neither is the colour of love a good idea) but a nod to the amorous season can be found in the subtler burgundy version found at Topman for £65. Top this off with a simple shirt or t shirt and a skinny scarf as a more casual alternative to a tie and jeans or trousers depending on the occasion.
But shoes boys, please don’t think your mucked up trainers will impress us, because they wont. Get yourself some proper shoes (patent if your brave enough) and you won’t stand out for all the wrong reasons.
One last point guys, themed boxers are optional…
So go out, be merry and enjoy because you know what they say, all you need is love. Happy Valentines Day! |
