Greetings from Puerto Montt.
We arrived 1020km from Santiago at 10:30 this morning after a very good night sleep in the 5 star bus. Very comfortable as it didn´t feel like 12 hours at all.
We´ve visited the mall and bought 4 CDs: reggaton, music from a chilean rock group, and music from 2 mexican rock/hip hop bands. We only wish we had a CD player so we could enjoy it now.
We´ve walked along the port and pier and we´re just killing time until we have to meet up with my aunty, cousins and grandmama when they get off the boat.
We had a great time welcoming the new year at my aunty Marcela´s place. We arrived at 9 at her apartment, had a hearty meal and a couple of drinks (we´re now fans of `fan-schopps´ which are half Fanta or Bilz and half beer). From the balcony we could see the 25 minute fireworks display. The fireworks felt as if they were coming straight for us. It was very beautiful and impressive.
My aunty got a bit tipsy (read `drunk´) and she reminded me of my mother. Definitely sisters. And just like my mother, she´s a happy drunk so we were complimented a few times although they were the same compliments because she´d forget that she´d already told us.
We headed home at 2 and we´re greeted with a black out. We were one of six communities affected and we didn´t get power back until 11:30am. I don´t know what it forbodes for the coming year!
Last night a volcano in the south of Chile erupted. Volcan Llaima is one of the most active volocanoes in Chile and it spewed ash 1000 metres up. No nearby towns have been evacuated so things are fine and we don´t think it´ll affect our trip since the closest we´ll get to it will be 200 kms west of it sometime later this week.
We´re off now to see more of Puerto Montt and we´ll blog away in Chiloe if we have time.
Don´t forget your new year´s resolution. ¡Chau!
