Ok so before i had wrote a entry about hip-hop music and how much i love it. The thing is as much as i love my hip-hop music it is not my favorite genre of music. I love to listen to soul music and R&B. One of my favorite artist is India Arie. The thing about her that i love the most is her voice. she has a uniqueness about her that is so smooth and soothing. She also plays a guitar and it mixes well with her voice. When you hear her songs it either makes you bop your head or sing to her tunes. Her songs are either about love or life and you can either relate to what shes singing about or it'll make you think. Another type of music that I have been getting into is christian music. My room mates tend to listen to it alot. And so i decided i might as well. Well i began listening and came across this group called casting crowns. Of course they sing and give praises to god. Well i decided to compare a song by a non-christian artists and a song by a christian artist to see the similarites. Let me explain when I tell me friends about the type of music i listen to they instantly think that it has to do with sex or women or something crazy like that. Not all artist who sing or rap talk about those kind of things. India arie is an aritst who crosses boundries and one of the boundries that she crossed was talking about the Lord. On her recent cd she created a song about god being real and he being everywhere. Although India Arie is not a Christian artist she definately believes in a higher power and knows he exists. not only does she sing of praises to the Lord but she also sings of love and truth. Casting Crowns is a christian band and they sing about their love of God. Every song is surrounded by that higher power. Not that there's anything wrong with that but the questions is.... christians sit here and judge all secular music with out giving it a chance. they only look at rap and see it as the whole thing and they don't expand their horizons. I bet alot of christians haven't even heard of India Arie let alone all the other great secular artist. My point is before listening to Rock i hated it and thought it was just noise until i began to listen to it and i love alot of rock bands and rock music. you never know what you'll like or what you will find and utnil you find it. try something new, broaden your horizons don't judge a book by it's cover because then you will never really know.
