| Movie Review - Clay Pigeons (DVD)

Well I had a buddy on the internet clue me into this little gem of a film - It reminds me of the old movie Blood Simple by the Coen Brothers but only amped up. This stars Joaquin Phoenix, Vince Vaughn and Janeane Garofalo. This movie is not for the kiddies. It involves adultry, cheating, double crossing and murder. It twists on itself and will keep you guessing where it is going. At times, tongue in cheek and other times it really makes you uncomfortable.
I think Vince Vaughns performance in this movie is really over the top but it works in the genre. My wife and I kept guessing and we really liked the characters as the movie progressed. It starts out slow and it builds so give it a chance before clicking the remote. If you liked Blood Simple, Simple Plan or the Body Double type of movies you'll like this one.
It does have a smoldering factor in the a couple scenes that should keep the kiddies away. The real character in the story could also be the landscape which is in a remote small town America town in the Mid-West.
I don't want to give any significant plot points away because of the type of movie - it does twist and I could inadvertantly give away the movie - I'd never heard of this movie before and I don't remember it getting a lot of press- It was the early 90's and I'd just had my babies so I may have been distracted. I'm glad I was clued into it - Thanks for the tip
So if you, your wife/husban are into these type films - Dive in and give it a spin - I think you'll have a great evening of entertainment.
