 Get Smart - Movie Review

Well I went to see Get Smart - I loved the old TV show it was a blast - Don Adams was great and I thought this is one movie that would blow up and be horrible - It had all the potential.

One thing it does have going for it is Steve Carrell because he is funny on his own.   He looks a little like Get Smart from the show and he had the potential to pull it off.

My youngest one talked to me into going and we hit the movie.   I have to say it was pretty good - I was skeptical but I really liked it.  She loved it and since she had no frame of reference it must have rung true.   I don't give away much in my movie reviews so I'll say this....

Carrell was true to the character of the show by updating it - It wasn't as campy or schtick-like in it's presentation.   He did a great job of not over-shadowing the character or movie - Unlike Jim Carrey who seems to overact and go overboard in every movie recently.

Ann Hathaway did a great 99 - although I'm biased because she could have stood there and smiled for half the movie and I would have liked it - I like Natalie Portman but Ann Hathaway is closing the gap.   She was a perfect straight man to Maxwell Smart
The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) did a great comedic turn in this movie - Critics are going crazy over his performance - If you really want to see a funny version of the Rock - Pick up a copy of BE COOL with John Travolta - That is a really funny movie and Vince Vaughn and the Rock make a pretty good couple characters - The Rock did great in Get Smart

So two big thumbs up - If you liked the old show or like comedy about secret agents check out Get Smart - It's a great Popcorn Movie I give is 4 1/2 out of 5 Bags of Popcorn.

Hmm, think you overrated it a bit:P THAT close to perfection? Doubtful(haven't seen it yet, but am skeptical). There are certain actors/actresses you know will stink up a screen when you see them...especially if they take a certain type of role.

Carrell was a great jerk in Bruce Almighty...but snored me to sleep in his sequel most of the time. I think he is a great second-in-command but not a lead. I think he was funnier as the mentally challenged weatherman in Anchorman. Make him a sidekick in a kung fu spoof.

I know you are off when you put down Jim Carrey:P The dude rocked Bruce Almighty. Yes, he can over do it on occasion or go down a dark path that scares me. But, he is okay most of the time and often funnier than Carrell has ever been.

You kinda threw people here mentioning all those other actors as if they might be in the film as well:P

And, yes, I loved the old show as well...though if I tried to watch it now, I might not like it the same way.
