| Let's Ban the Dick, Jane and Sally 1st Grade Books |
Some people took offense to the works of Steinbeck, Twain and Salinger. After placing them on the Challenged Book List, they continue to fight to have them banned completely.
I feel the same way about those First Grade Reader books known as the Dick, Jane and Sally series. I want them outlawed.
The DJ &S readers have been in existence for many, many years without being challenged. I am going to point out to why they must be expelled, and how their subliminal messages twist the minds of our young. To corrupt a mind, authors begin in the early stages of childhood. Their twisted message isn’t readily evident. You must dig deep enough to see the horror between the lines.
I will type an excerpt in all caps from one of these First Grade Readers. I’ll follow it up with an explanation of its offensive nature.
"SEE DICK".
Why was this main character not named Tom? We all know that the name Dick is associated with a certain male body part. It is evident that the author is an exhibitionist. This filth must be stopped.
"SEE DICK RUN".
Why is Dick running? I believe that Dick is running to score a hit from his drug dealer. The exhibitionist author wants children to realize at an early age that using drugs is an acceptable lifestyle. This is atrocious.
"SEE JANE".
I take offense to her name right off the bat. Maybe if she were named after a biblical character, like Sarah or Ruth, it might be easier to swallow. But Jane is a savage name. Just ask Tarzan and Cheetah. In every series Jane gets second billing to Dick, who is always mentioned first. This is an obvious condescending attitude towards females.
"SEE JANE RUN AFTER DICK".
Jane is obviously running after to Dick so that she may also partake in the nose-candy he is about to purchase. These books show Dick arriving to their destination before Jane, thus hinting that Dick is stronger and better than his sister. This is sexist.
"SEE SALLY".
Sally always comes last. This is a tragic message to a third child. She grows up believing that she will never be first at anything, especially if the eldest sibling is male. You will also notice that the youngest child was not named Harry. The intended message is that only the slow and stupid are female.
"SEE SALLY RUN AFTER DICK AND JANE".
Sally has learned that it is her role to stop her brother and sister from engaging in illegal drug activity. We always see Sally running with her hands in the air, which indicates her frantic state of mind. She knows that her mommy and daddy will kick her butt if Dick and Jane get into a fight over who gets the most nose-candy. What a burden to place on such a small child. Since Dick and Jane are portrayed with smiling faces, and Sally a scowl, it becomes clear that Sally has failed in all of her missions, thus exposing her inferiority to the older siblings.
Can you catch the sexist attitude in the phrases below?...
"SEE JANE HELP MOMMY SCRUB THE KITCHEN FLOOR."
"SEE SALLY AND JANE HELP MOMMY WASH THE DISHES."
"SEE DICK PLAY."
Why isn't Dick helping with the housecleaning chores? Again, it’s sexist. Jane and Sally do housework while Dick gets to play. Have you ever read a DJ&S book that shows Dick washing dishes while Jane and Sally build a clubhouse? If you have, I’ll bet that clubhouse fell apart and Dick had to rebuild it properly.
Yes, this series of books are ravaging the minds of our young. If you own them, burn them. If you don’t own them, buy some, and then go out and burn them. Invite your neighbors to a bonfire.
Write to your people in congress. Insist that these evil pages be eradicated from our society.
Once I have cleared the library and bookstore shelves of these evil books I will attack the absurdity of Little Bo Peep, who never should have been put in charge of all those sheep in the first place.
Act now before it’s too late to save our children!
