Come to My Island. Refresh Your Tired Spirit.
When the need arises I escape to my private island. I find tranquility there, the putting aside of all negative things.

I walk her sunny beaches, delighting in the soft warm sand as it cushions my heels and flows between my toes. My island brings me confront, tranquility and a sense of wellbeing.

I gaze up at the gulls swooping down from the sky as they skim the water‘s surface for morsels of food. The symphony of their cries mingle with jungle birdsong and the occasional gentle patter of rain. I roll up my pant legs and scamper along the shore, allowing the surf to wash gently over my feet. The indigo sky is choked with fluffy white clouds drifting lazily above my head.

Leaves rustle on giant palm trees; their branches are heavily laden with fruit. I toss a rock high into the leafy vegetation to dislodge a coconut. It lands upon the sand with a soft, reassuring thud. The milk inside is satisfying and sweet; the meat tender and refreshing.

A pathway snakes through the cool emerald woodland to a lagoon lush with colorful exotic plant life. I swim in her cool crystal water, diving beneath a blue waterfall cascading from a tall cliff. Tropical flowers of red and violet grow think and dense, thriving on the moist, humid earth.

I detour down another path to an old wooden fence. The gate opens upon a valley of green vines sagging under the weight of plump, clusters of purple grapes. I relish the sight, taste and smell of them. Monkeys chatter playfully from a canopy of tall trees.

Further down the path I collapse beside a gurgling stream. I begin eavesdropping on the sounds of nature. My tired psyche absorbs the stillness as it rejuvenates my tired spirit.

On my island all is good… and safe… and warm. It is my secret retreat, a place I alone know about. God’s whisper is heard within the folds of her silence. He comforts me. He assures me that all is well with my soul.

I don’t need money to go to my island. The trip requires no travel, no bags to pack and carry. No planning is required, nor the canceling of appointments before going.

I just go whenever the need arises.

There is room for a tired friend on my island. You’re welcome to go there whenever the world begins to press a bit. You already have the ticket. I gave it to you long ago. You buried it beneath a load of burdens, beneath all the pressures of your life.

Close your eyes, my friend. Breathe deeply, and imagine my island. Extract that ticket… and just… go. Escape. Lose yourself to our isolation, if only for a few glorious moments. Walk her sunny beaches. Feel her warm breeze upon your skin. Taste the salty sea air. Release to my island all those things that bring you sadness. Go there as often as you wish, anytime of day or night. Eat of her fruit. Relax in her goodness. Listen for God’s soothing voice.

While you are there, my friend, and if you have the time, look for a hidden pathway at the end of the shoreline. Once there, you’ll hear the gurgle of a babbling brook. Enter the jungle coolness and follow the sound of that brook. Something wondrous awaits you at your journey’s end. Use your imagination to discover it.
