 Loosing My Mind
I guess I'm loosing my mind over this weight loss craze going on in the United States. Every channel I flip to on the TV has some new weight loss program on it. I watched a few and the results some of the people (mainly women) had were very tempting. I'm overweight myself and I'm only semi-happy with the way I look but it's still tempting none the less.

So there are only four weeks left of summer vacation and I'm planning on losing 20 pounds. I am 174 as of now and I want to be at least 150 by the time school starts. That probably won't happen, so 160 is what I'm going for, and then during the school year I will be trying to lose another 10 pounds. I want to look nice for this sophomore year.

So I will be cutting out all carbs—that means chips, pretzels (unless I am sick) and no more chocolate or sweets. I will be eating fruit mostly. I will also be exercising 30-40 minutes a day as well as doing crunches and other activities to help me reach my goal.

The main problem with me is that I like to eat a lot during the night. That needs to stop! I'm not sure how I'm going to do it, but I must find a way. My mom says the reason I'm the way I am is not because really of what I eat during the day but what I'm splurging on at night.

So please give me any tips you have on weight loss if you have them. I will also be keeping a record of my weight loss per week on here. Thank you for reading!

I don't understand this modern fad; but then I don't watch television.

The notion of losing weight dors not make sense.

First, are you over-weight? If so, there is something wrong in your life-style. Thus, it would not be an issue of a weight-loss programme, but a life-style change, ie, changes you could introduce and sustain forever.

Some simple, easy to maintain principles:

1. Eat breakfast and eat well (this switches on your metabolism, burning up more calories than you eat). Eat small meals often (four to six times a day).
2. Do not (underlined, in bold, with exclamation marks) eat processed foods; eat natural foods, prepare and cook whatever your eat yourself.
3. Make fruit and vegetables the core of your food intake. Make your diet as varied as possible.
4. Eat whole grains (wholewheat bread and pasta, brown rice).
5. Take moderate to strenuous exercise three to five times a week.
6. When you fail to observe one of the above, do not worry about it, just resolve to do better in future.
7. Do not expect to lose weight quickly. A pound of fat is 3,500 kilo calories, more than your daily requirement. See this as a life-style issue, not a quick fix.
8. Be kind to yourself.
