 WE ARE STILL AT WAR
WARNING:  THE PICS IN THIS BLOG MAY BE DISTURBING TO SOME.  ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO VIEW IT?

Its easy to forget that as a nation the United States Military is spread out on two battle fronts.  We are most active in Afghanistan but still deployed in Iraq as well.

Our nations President had hinted that by now while running for office he would have us out of the Gulf.

Maybe, just maybe, there is a reason why we need to be there.

Maybe it is as simple as oil.  Maybe its regional stability in our favor.  Maybe its something so far beyond what we could even guess at.

Regardless we are still there.  What our soldiers and the people that live there go through is nothing short of Hell on Earth at times.

The question I ask though is if in the end it will make any difference since we will have to leave eventually?  History of that region would suggest that it will not.  The Jewish people could not conquer that land in the pre New Testament days.  Greece failed to be able to defeat them.  Rome couldn't hold it either.  The Crusaders were ousted.  Nazi Germany failed as well.  Russia couldn't make a difference.  Why should we think we will change the way of life in a land where they cling to their ways stronger than many of us cling to the things we say we can not live without?

We can take out today's leaders but there will always be those ready to step in and take there place when opportunity knocks.

I have two friends serving in the sand box that used to work with me.  My three Brothers are Veterans as was my Father.

While I openly question what good the war will ultimate bring and as always I welcome any and all comments on this blog I warn you that anyone bashing our soldiers will find themselves in my cross-hairs for a long while.

November 11th is Veterans Day here in the States.  If you happen to know a Veteran or bump into one please thank him or her for their service.  It will mean a lot even if they shrug it off.  If not please think of them or pray for them if that's your thing.

We have many Veterans on Thoughts.com as well.  One that I have had the privilege to interact with is GoodHeart.

Thank you GoodHeart for doing what you have done and what you still do.

As always I hope peace finds you all.

Wow, the pictures made me cry.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. ----John Stuart Mill

Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events. ----Churchill

Anyone will to sacrifice their lives for something else.... is a hero.
God bless them.

I thank you for helping to make everyone aware of just how blessed we are that there are men and women who fight for our freedom and the toll it takes in many lives. Those who serve our country are not afraid to put their lives on hold to fight.

No problem. I know its easy to forget with the economy, health issues and just lifes events. It doesnt mean though that its not there.

Thank you IrishMike... I think we need to be reminded that regardless of the politics of the day our fighting men and women have never let us down... We need to not let them down...

I think it is important to point out also that much of what our military does is not war related. It is our military that often engage in humanitarian campaigns. When there were starving people because of famine it is the US military that delivers food, it is the US military that extends hospital services when there are epidemics and disasters in third world countries, It is the US Military that is deployed domestically during any disaster that requires additional support. The list goes on... And, I include the National Guard and the US Coast Guard in my definition of US Military. God Bless and protect them every one...

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

A moments consideration and respect for those who risk life and limb for our security costs us nothing, and means everything.

I dont hate the game either. Nothing wrong with hating the game.

I am very anti-war, I think there is rarely, if ever a "good" reason for it. BUT...The men and women who serve our country deserve our undying thanks and respect. They do their job, without question or hesitation, going wherever they are sent. I pray for all of them.
Thank you for this post, many people need to see it!

My daddy served in Iraq in 2003, and he's still suffering from the side-effects of being in a war. He has nightmares, and he doesn't like unexpected loud noises. I've seen what war can do to a person first hand, and it's not a pretty thing. I don't like the fact of having a war, but I think without it, there wouldn't be any peace whatsoever.

I dont think that America wants to be the only developed nation in the world my friend. If that was so we would be at war with nations other than Iraq and Afganistan.

Our troops are not at war with Islam as well.

Peace for you as well.

I don't believe in war either, Jennifer, but when others war against us and kill our loved ones and threaten to destroy our nation, we must either return fire or die.

Thanks for the harsh photos, IrishMike. God bless our troops, past and present.
