 The Good Old Days
Every so often I here someone saying it was better back in the good old days.

Really?

Kids were so much safer back then, then they are today.

All that caring kept kids off the street so there was not all the gang issues of today.

Heck I don't think there was anyone doing crime at all.

Everyone treated everyone else with respect too.

Men treated women with so much more respect it was a "rule of thumb."

Kids didn't have to go to school and be afraid of anything.

There was no drinking or drug issues either right?

Sports were played the right way too not like today at all.

And everyone had a job I bet.

LoL, I guess things are a lot like they are today after all.

Its like it says on my profile page.

"Everything that is happening right now has happened before and will happen again."

I know exactly what you mean, history is far too repetitive. It needs some new ideas!
Posted by  iBruno  on 2009-10-11 17:52:02

Yup! Very little is new.

it does repeat... but when it comes around again it has collected steam...

True in most things.

Mike,

I like this post, even though it seems life was much less complicated back then.

There were less things to take your eye off the ball I think.

I'm having trouble remembering the good old days, or what I did yesterday! Love the photos and the reminder...as much as things change...didn't have color TV, video games, cell phones, hell still had party lines on the phone(bet most people don't even know what that means)...they stay the same.

When I was a kid we had a party line. It was no fun though.

It's true,I place some of the blame on the media. In the good old days we didn't hear about all that seems to be deemed so important now..Like which movie star is drunk, pregnant or dead,or what some congressman said about the president two hours ago.....I can't go on.........it's too depressing....
Posted by  nanahart  on 2009-10-11 23:32:29

No need too, I get it.
Posted by  IrishMike6464  on 2009-10-11 23:55:39

The good ole days wern't really all that good, but we could be oblivious to most of the problems if they didn't really effect us directly. Media was really restricted with only 3 channels and no internet, and most people could pretend that the way it was was the way it was supposed to be. I don't know if that makes sense, I'm tired.
Good post, as usual, thanks Mike

Thankyou My sentiments exactly, makes me laugh when people say it was safer *Back in their day* Yeah no pervs or pedophiles of course!, Nope never happened did it!, Kids just vanished up chimneys and girls were whisked off in a space ship to mars when they went missing!..

Great points here!.

Yup little boys turned into toads too!
Posted by  IrishMike6464  on 2009-10-12 23:07:13

I hear ya on some points
but what about the kids killing kids and just recently 2 kids, one was a missionary and the other a boy scout, they went and killed a mother and slit her daughters throat (the kid is 11) and then hacked off her toes

I think with so much violence on TV and the violent games out, kids are not sensitive to blood and gore anymore

O' Pinky. Stuff like that happened then too.

I will have to respectfully disagree with the TV and video games as well. It is up to the parent to teach right and wrong.

I have taken both my kids to the shooting range with bottles filled with water. They shot the 22 rifle and watched the water bottles blow up. Then I sent them down to the water bottles and asked them to put them back together. the lesson was clear to both of them at a young age. Guns destroy things and the damage cannot be fixed.

They also have been present while I gutted and cleaned fish I have caught. A knife can kill and hurt. Lesson learned.

Also they know not to hurt anything around me for enjoyment. From bugs to wild life to humans we hurt nothing in the name of fun. They both have spent time in time out for not following this rule. Lesson learned.

I hope my response has not upset you. I thank you for commenting and hear your opinion. I just disagree.

No offense Mike

I guess I forgot Lizzy Borden lol

Sounds like you are a responsible parent, but a lot of parents out there do not think as straight as we do.

I agree with Michelle, things did happen back then, but it seems to have gotten worse, it is more common to see kids killing kids and killing adults, I lived in Gang nation and left at the right time (this was in LA Cali)All I heard about was gangs killing other gang members, now everyone who is breathing is fair game :(
Posted by  Pinkkitty  on 2009-10-13 09:56:14

That is sad wht the L.A. gangs have become.
