Asleep on the street
There was a sight to behold. I was driving down a street on my way to work. I was approaching a stop light. What caught my eye was the brilliant blue blanket. As I got closer I saw a grocery shopping cart full of stuff. I looked close and saw a woman sleeping on a pallett bed on the sidewalked covered in her blue blanket. There was no other people around her except a couple of people crossing the street. It looked as though she just decided it was sleepy time and laid down where she stopped and slept. She didn't flinch or anything.

eeerm, that's one thought that came to mind with me as well. However, she's homeless and the stuff homeless people possess is mostly worthless. It's only valuable to that person. Where she was sleeping only has traffic of cars and the occasional person crossing the street on a mission to get to their point of interest. I've never seen any other homeless people there.

How sad. We sometimes forget just how good we have it. I don't know how anyone could sleep out wide open like that though. I'd be scared to death!

tech4Him, she's safer than most people because "normal" people are more afraid of the homeless than the homeless are of the "normal" people. Yet, somehow we think that they should be afraid. You know, many of the homeless choose to be homeless. I know that sounds awful. But, from some of the stuff I've heard they choose it because they have no responsibilities to anyone but themselves.

My brother is homeless in south central LA. He was abused by the husband of a close relative at the age of 5 till freshman year in high school. He did not confide in anyone. No one knew any of this until he was in rehab for the second time when he was in his 30's.
Its a very long and sad story, but this is not something he chooses. He lives in a crack house and begs for money on the street and has been there for about 18 years. He was a strong handsome, athletic, sweet, sensitive human being. Every homeless person is someones sister, parent, daughter, brother, etc. Its almost worse than a death. I wouldnt wish it on any family.

Roe, I know because he's your brother and you're emotionally involved you see things the way you do.

He made the choice to be silent about the abuse until it ate away at his soul. That pushes a person to battle within self and his life is a result of his self battle.

I feel for him. I too was abused sexually, physically & mentally... I did not keep it to myself and today I fight for a better cause... stop abuse before it starts... it's a difficult thing, but educating children very early can help save their lives.

Thank you for your honest feelings here roe.
