| Godless in America |
Listen up. I just read the Miami Herald account of an "perfect" family being destroyed by the father for no apparent reason. The 16 year old son escaped. The 20 year old daughter was away at school, but had posted distress signals on her Myspace page only hours before the tragedy. So had her 14 year old sister. The neighbors were shocked. Why hadn't anybody noticed the problem? This "perfect" family attended church and were very active in it.
The neighbors are wondering how they did not notice. The church is wondering how they did not notice. The world is wondering why God didn't intervene. How could He let such a tradgedy happen. But nobody is holding themselves or society accountable for this.
I postulate that our society, including the church, has put God so far from the preeminent relationship He deserves and requires that we are pretty basically "Godless" when it comes right down to our lives. We don't see it in ourselves and our neighbors and associates don't see it either. Our approach is kind of like "all this and God too." Religion has replaced a relationship with God and that makes matters worse than if we did not "know God" at all.
Government is Godless. Communities are Godless. Neighbors are Godless. We have cut God out of the equation other than by name only and we wonder why our world is falling apart around us. Listen to King David, in Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; " According to Holy Scriptures, "David was a man after God's own heart." He had a relationship with God in which he depended and when things would crumble around him, He trusted in God, not government or neighbors for his help.
Our world remedies are crumbling. We are going to need a stronger source of strength. Isn't it time we reconsidered God. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, (Jesus). If this sounds like religion to you you still aren't ready to take His hand. When everything else has failed you, reach out to Him. He is already reaching out to you.
