 Are dogs angles?
My wife loves indoor pets.  She really bonds with them.  I prefer pets to be outside, or at least I used to feel that way.
A few years ago, after the death of her second pet rabbit named Solomon, she swore that she would never have another pet because it hurt too bad to watch them die.  Within a few days she came home from work crying and asking for a "puppy."  I reminded her that she said she did not want another pet because it hurt too bad to see them die.  She cried some more and "begged" for a puppy.  I emphatically said no!  I was not up for a puppy in the house and did not want her heart or my heart broken again.

Fast forward a week and we were at the breeder's house looking at puppies.  A tiny "runt" Minpin caught my attention and my wife begged to take him home.  I had a Harley Davidson that I really liked and she made the statement that "we could even name him Harley."  We bought him and I named him Harley, against her protest.
That was two years ago.  I allowed Harley to sleep with us "for just the first night," and Harley has been sleeping with us ever since.  We take him everywhere we go or we don't go.  He has captured both of our hearts and I think I pray for him more than I do for my children and grandchildren.   He brings such joy and peace into our home.  He knows when we are sick, or discouraged, and he comes and  "ministers" to our needs.  He patiently waits for us as we get ready in the morning only to see us leave him alone for the whole day.  He eagerly greets us when we get home and we spend wonderful, stress relieving time together.  The end of the day comes too quickly and we all tuck ourselves in together and do the whole thing over again.

The Greek interpretation of "angel" is "messenger."  I think that Harley is God's messenger to us of His love.  The Bible says that "God made all creatures, great and small."  Harley is one of God's great small creatures and we are blessed by this little angel.  By the way, don't listen to anyone who tells you that your pets will not be in heaven.  As Billy Graham's wife reportedly said when Billy asked her if there would be golf in heaven: "whatever it takes to make you happy Billy.  That's what will be in heaven."

We just had to give away our dog.. Suddenly I got twin brothers, and they had to have so much attention. We gave her to our past neighbors who we really trust. An older couple with grown up kids, they can give her all the attention she deserves... I miss her a lot though. Pets are amazing.

I do think they are here for our mental states. People who are not matched with the right animals don't get it. People who dislike animals don't get it, like you said you were in the begining.
I have three Jack Russells. They are my babies! The kids tell me I like them more. I tell the kids they do what I say and don't talk back. LOL
Also they like you said are always beside me. I am the pack leader I guess. They are precious! If I didn't so dislike the dog hair I would get 10 more.

Harley has been put here to give you a peace and someone to nurture. I understand that it is hard to watch a pet, or anything/anyone pass away, but the hurt you feel is just a reflection of your love for that beeing. If you did not care, love, and cherish every moment you had with them then you would not care when they left you. you would not miss their company.

Harley is your companion. No one would, could, or will ever love him like you and your wife do. That is why you have him. Angels are usually viewed as emanations of a supreme divine being, sent to do the tasks of that being. Whether that task is to keep you happy and spirited enough to be able to do the bidding that your calling has marked for you, or to simply give you the comfort and joy of loving--just simply loving.

In many cultures, the being of an "angel" is usualy portrayed in a human form--however in some cultures it can be in ANY form...a rock,a grashopper, even a little puppy.

Just because the western christian community does not typically view "angels" as anything other than a human form because they cannot relate to any other form, does not mean that there are angels out there that maybe they are just too narrow minded to see.
