Week One - a look back
This blog is to keep track of my exercise, as I work toward my first triathlon.  It will take place on September 7th.  See (http://www.uswts.com/wa/welcome.htm)

I am doing the SuperSprint distance.  This means .25 miles in the water, 8 miles on the bike, and 1.5 on foot.

I've been told that this is nothing, that it'll be easy.  I'm getting really sick of hearing that.

I am doing this race because I needed a goal and also because I need to prove to myself that my body can be trained and can function.  This race is to overcome my asthma, two bad knees, two bad hips and several years of negative self-talk.

So, here's what I did starting with last Friday.  I was training before that, but I can't remember well enough to go back and fill that in.  Besides if I were to go back and list every workout I've done this summer, that would be like resume padding - a look back at how great I am instead of a look forward to where I need to go.  I start with friday because Friday is that first time I swam the race distance.

7/25 - Swam 25 minutes (.25 of a mile), did pt exercises, set up swim lessons, had a massage
7/26 - 1 hour of yoga (my first class ever!)
7/27 - rest
7/28 - pt exercises
7/29 - 1 hour of yoga (2nd class, different instructor), pt exercises

Tonight I have a swim lesson.  I'll post that after its over so I have the right time.

I'm also reading a book for inspriation - A Resilient Life.  Its by a Christian marathon runner.  (http://www.amazon.com/Resilient-Life-Move-Ahead-Matter/dp/0 785271511)  So far, so good.  Basically, I don't want to be a quitter.

Last week at some point in time I bought a pedometer.  It was a cheap one and it isn't very reliable.  I seems to count between 60 and 80 steps for every 50 I take.  I don't think I'm going to use it much, especially since my knees are killing me again.  I'm trying very hard to be nice to them.
