In my opinion.. You should never hide what you feel, in other words, keep your mouth shut.. You should always be honest.. I mean, look what you did! You are right. We live in the fear of telling everything, our opinions, our emotions, and so on, to the others. But if you do it gently, people might understand it better. You only have to try to be calm, and don't be angry, and people will always see through the words, deep inside your heart.
