The Need For Adventure
As human beings we need food, water, air, and maybe a few other things that are commonly noted. I think we also need adventure. I'm starving for it, but I do remember it:

When I was younger I was transfered around for my job and sometimes when I was in a new town I would get lost on purpose just to see what I would find.

When the Toronto Blue Jays opened their new baseball stadium me and some friends decided at the last minute to go. We had no tickets, no where to stay and no directions. We scalped some tickets, caught the last six innings of the game and then did some sight-seeing before we drove around until we found a motel.

A friend of mine in Pittsburgh was telling me how much he missed his girlfriend in New Jersey. I said, "Screw it! Pack some things and let's go." We did. The girls mom hid us out because her dad was real strict.

After seeing a Hall and Oates concert at an all girls college I got stuck in the dorms past bed check and had to hide in a closet until I could be snuck out.

I was at a bar that was still rather crowded around closing time and I stood up and invited everyone back to my place. By the time I got there my place was rather crowded and the two guys I shared a house with were just shaking their heads.

I had a friend at a large university and he wanted to throw a party. I called every sororiety on campus and invited them. Needless to say, none of them showed, but it was still fun.

There were a lot more but you get the idea. I miss those days and I am determined to find them again. My idea, if I am ever single again, is to take out an ad looking for a woman who wants to go on an unplanned trip with someone they do not even know (me). It's either that or skydiving.

That was wild. I'm afraid my younger days weren't nearly as much fun. Although we had our moments. My mom was very strict with me.

I loved this free spirited post. Seems my race horse is kicking at the barn door again. My younger years contained no adventure. I grew up in an extremely rigid environment ... where it was always "can't" and "no" and everything ran on a strict schedule. I had no freedoms and my every move was watched. I have a problem with rules and I refuse to live my adult life in bondage with anyone telling me what I can and can't do or what's best for me.

For most of my life I was a little mousie ... never causing anyone a lick of trouble ... doing what I was told and never questioning anything. I was a girl who totally followed and lived by all the rules. At 36 I thought my first thought for myself and my "coming out" days began. Needless to say this "coming out" of my mousie stage rocked the world of those in my life. I was told countless times to straighten up and fly right, but once one gets the barn door down and heads out to pasture there's no going back. Peace & Many Adventures Hungry Heart.

you make me want to re-read the lord of the rings books. sorry, an odd remark but maybe fitting. because nothing says adventure to me like a set-in-his-ways hobbit being dragged out of his comfortably dull life and onto the road leading to mordor. sometimes it takes a good push to get us all out there into the realm of taking chances...but the thought that always propells me is how fleeting life is. and i don't want to look back and say that i waited for adventure to find me only to realize it never would. sometimes we have to make life our own version of adventurous.
