| Leaps of Faith |
I played basketball when I was a kid. One day the coach was talking to some of the players about staying out of foul trouble when I mentioned that I hadn't had any fouls called on me. The coach replied, "Maybe that's because you aren't aggressive enough." I still remember that because it occurred to me that he was right. The next game another kid had a breakaway and I went at him to stop him, but not 100 percent. He still made the shot and I got called for the foul.
Just because we take a leap of faith doesn't mean we are really committing to it. There have been many times I have stood at the edge of the metaphoric cliff determined to leap, only to do it half-heartedly. When you just take that small jump you often bang off the side of the cliff, grabbing onto a limp and climbing back up where you can say, "Well, that leap of faith didn't work out."
To really take a leap of faith, I need to get that running start to the cliff's edge jumping up and out with excitement about what it is hidden by the fog and clouds instead of fear. Maybe the fall will hurt more than the scratches from the side of the cliff. Maybe the landing will be plush and heavenly.
Of course there is only one way to know.....
