We have all been asked that environmentally vital question, "Paper or plastic" as if we can single-handedly save the world from ultimate destruction, as onlookers wait to hear if we might be one of those people who will destroy the environment with our answer ... talk about peer pressure!
There is always those shoppers that we all bow to with immense respect and admiration who bring their own bags to the grocery store, because they never have to make that vulgar decision of using paper or plastic bags.
But the fact is, if you choose paper, you are stripping the land of trees which provide vital nutrients to the soil and the air we breathe, but if you choose plastic, you may have rescued the great trees from destruction, but now you are using a petroleum based product (plastic) which may take ten-thousand years to bio-degrade and destroy the soil and air we breathe.
If you happen to be one of those people who bring their own bags to the grocery store, good for you; but take a closer look at what that bag is made of, chances are it is made of nylon, another petroleum based textile which is produced in some third-world sweat shop by people working their asses off and treated like slaves because you are "environmentally responsible"!
You may have even bought that bag at the grocery store for $1, because the grocery store's business goals include saving the planet - WRONG - grocery stores are a business, and they are probably making money by selling you a nylon bag at the check-out, and ultimately saving themselves money by not having to provide you with paper or plastic bags!
Grocery stores are in the business of selling groceries, and if that means playing on your "environmental consciousness" then that's what they will do in order to line their pockets with you hard earned money.
And don't even get me started on the issue of whether to use condoms made of latex or the skin of a dead lamb in order to satisfy you own depraved sexual desires!
