It's just coming into magpie season. I'm am so scared of being swooped by a magpie.
There is this one guy who rides his bike to work every morning. Just before the magpies came out, he was just a normal bike rider who I didn't really notice that often. The one day I saw him and he was veering onto the road and waving his hands around like a maniac. It was then I noticed the black and white blur of feathers aiming directly for his head. Naughty him wasn't wearing a helmet. I started laughing, because even though I am scared of magpies, it was hilarious to watch it happen to someone else. The next day he was was wearing a helmet and was doing the same thing - swerving all over the place and waving at the missile aiming for him. A week later, he was wearing his helmet but had those cable ties sticking out the top. Worked a treat, coz the magpie now ignored him. Guess it got to close one time and got poked. Now I just laugh at him every morning because that is a funny sight.
Seeing magpies causes me to freak out a little. I will duck and run while holding my hands above my head, and to the passer-by will look like a total freak.
Emus are my fear. Not that I run into many of them on my daily going-ons. But whenever I visit a zoo, I avoid the emu enclosure like the plague. Their eyes, beady little red things that look straight at you, scare the living shit out of me. May seem silly, but their eyes make my throat dry and I start to panic. I have no idea why I react like I do. I've never had any kind of experience with them, good or bad. I am just drawn into those little pots of hell eyes. Never mind the fact they are the one of those weird and wonderful Aussie creatures, that can't go backwards. Its just the eyes. Making me shiver just thinking about it.
Oh and P.S. for all those who pronounce it wrong - its em -you. not e-moo.
