I call them goosebumps. Some people call them goose-pimples. Who came up with that name anyway? I've never seen a goose with bumps or pimples!! I remember watching a movie in highschool for English, where there was a goose who called them people-pimples. That cracked me up then and still brings a chuckle now.
Anyway. its not just cold weather that brings the goosebumps out on my arms and legs. It can be a sweltering 40 degrees and I can still get them. And its mostly when I listen to certain music. Its a weird phenomenom, really. I was only thinking about it yesterday. My boy and I went up to see his parents. They own a general store in a small farming community about an hour away. We grabbed our Ipods and settled in for the boring drive. It was particulary hot, especially under the glass, and I was getting goosebumps from some of the songs we were listening to.
I was trying to figure out what was causing it, and I think I have figured it out.
Particular singers have a voice that brings out the goosebumps. They have a voice that is just a tad out of tune but thats what makes them popular. Kind of a scratchy, crackly voice.
Some chords bring out goosebumps. Those chords that sound mysterious or gruesome or hectic. They give the music a somewhat unnerving feeling.
And sometimes it can just be the lyrics. The ones that describe the feelings and situations of what the song is about. When you can imagine yourself living the song.
I think the singers, songwriters and bands that can do this to me have a great gift. It might be annoying for me but the fact they can give me goosebumps must mean they are doing something right. Thats just my thought anyway...

You are right and for me, Enya's songs give me goosebumps, but at the same time they are very relaxing.....
