Its the littlest things sometimes that will have me walking down memory lane. A song, a smell, a picture... I will zone out and think back on happier/sadder times, and then be rudely yanked out of it by someone waving their hand in my face.
Whenever I see a ginger cat, I always think back to when my cat was still alive, and him sleeping on the end of my bed, or jumping up on my lap for a cuddle, or carrying him into the vet surgery to be put down. I don't like that last memory much, it nearly always brings me to tears...
Whenever I hear 'Animal Song' by Savage Garden, I go back to 1999 and my Aunt and Uncles 25th Wedding Anniversary party and the pre party the night before when I got drunk for the first time, and being driven down the Mooloolaba Esplanade to pick up my cousin and his friends...
Whenever I smell Joop, I think of my boyfriend and how sexy he is and how much I love him and the first time we met, outside the pub at close at 3 in the morning and him smiling at me and me smiling back...
Or the smell of coffee, will take me back to good times with friends in cafes, the time my friend and I took a pill before going to Cafe Mojo and ordering a cafe at coffee mojo (no, thats not a mistake, we were a little high) and then wakling down town and her throwing it up in a bush (ewwww...)
Seeing fog will take me back to me and the same friend walking out the pub and going down to the river to sit in the car and watch the ghostly fog role in and being scared out of our wits...
Watching the Wizard of Oz will take me back to when I was little and being banned from watching that movie for a whole year coz I knew every word in it before it was spoken and my mum was sick of it....
Driving past a suburb in my town where my first school used to be will take me back to that school and rushing madly to school in the mornings so we could get our names on the list to go see the 'old people' in the nursing home next door to keep them company at luch time. That same school, when I learnt that school bags had straps so you could put it over your shoulder instead of carrying like a suitcase...
Seeing lightning in a storm will take me back to when we were travelling to Sydney in 1992 and arrived early morning in the midle of a feroious storm and seeing lightning that looked like someone drawing a crooked line down the middle of the sky and it lighting up so spectaculary....
This is my life, the good, the bad, the random....
